Amarnath yatra: Over 90,000 pilgrims pay obeisance

As the Amarnath yatra entered its seventh day today, over 90,000 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the cave shrine in south Kashmir.
Another batch of over 3,300 pilgrims today left for the twin base-camps of the cave shrine.
"Today, on the seventh day of the yatra, 10,561 yatris paid obeisance at the holy cave and, cumulatively, since the beginning of the pilgrimage, 90,045 Yatris have had the 'darshan'," an official spokesman said.
Chanting 'Jai Bholay Nath', the pilgrims- 2,604 males, 635 females and 102 sadhus and sadhvis left in 102 vehicles in a convoy for Amarnath this morning. They wereescorted by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicles, he said.

With today's batch, a total of 2,05,035 pilgrims and sadhus haveleft for Amarnath since the yatra began from Jammu on June 28.
The annual pilgrimage in Kashmir began amid a terror threat, following an intelligence warning that prompted the authorities to mobilise the "highest level" of security measures,including satellite tracking system.

The government has mobilised a heavy security blanket of over35,000 to 40,000 troops including the police, the Army, the BSF andthe CRPF.
This year, the yatra will be eight days shorter and will conclude on 'Shravan Purnima' (Raksha Bandhan) on August 7.
Situated in a narrow gorge at the farther end of Lidder Valley, Amarnath shrine stands at 3,888 metres, 46 km from Pahalgam and 14 km from Baltal.
