Local Congress MP Amarinder Singh today attacked the state government over deteriorating law and order situation, in the wake of abduction of a five-year-old child from the city and also asked the police to take immediate action in the case.
Reacting to the yesterday's abduction of the child from Ranjeet Avenue area here, the Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha expressed his sympathies with the parents of the child and hoped for his safe return.
"I can understand your pain and fear about the safety of your child," he told the parents in a message, while adding, "I want to assure you that I am with you in this hour of crisis."
Amarinder spoke to the City Police Commissioner Jatinder Aulakh conveying his serious concern over the abduction of the school going child from outside his residence, a statement quoting him said here.
The Commissioner told him that the police were on the job and were hopeful to solve the case soon, it said.
Amarinder said there was sense of fear and insecurity growing among the people of the holy city.
"I have been receiving dozens of telephone calls from the panic-stricken people of the city saying the incident had shaken them," he said.
The former chief minister hoped that the better sense prevails over Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who has been otherwise keeping himself busy with the matters other than those related to Punjab, so that he starts paying attention to the affairs of the state lest the situation goes from bad to worse, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Aulakh said that so far there was no clue of the kid, who was kidnapped from outside his house when he was dropped by the school van in the afternoon yesterday.
