Expressing concerns over the custodial death of terror suspect Khalid Mujahid in Barabanki, the Aligarh Muslim University Teachers' Association today demanded a time-bound CBI probe into the case.
"A resolution has been passed condemning the ruling Samajwadi Party for its failure in ensuring the safety of Muslim youths, who have been falsely implicated by the UP police during the past several years in cases of terror," said Aftab Alam, secretary of AMUTA after an emergency meeting here.
Alam said it was shocking that the party had failed even in making public the recommendations of the Nimesh Commission constituted by the former BSP government in the state.
He claimed that the UP police's version in the case was "false", as despite the presence of torture marks on the victim's body, they were claiming that the victim had died of a heart attack.
Meanwhile, the All-India Muslim Majlis-e-Mashawarat (AIIM), an umbrella body of all Indian Muslim organisations, has issued a statement here demanding constitution of fast track courts and review committees for expediting all terror cases.
The statement said that all the cases involving acts of terror should be investigated by the National Investigation Agency, as promised by the Home Minister.
Mujahid, an accused in serial blasts that had rocked Lucknow and Faizabad courts in November 2007, died on May 18 after he fell sick and fainted near Barabanki border while being escorted to Lucknow jail after a court hearing.
He was rushed to a district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
