Five persons, including an elderly tourist from Andhra Pradesh and a police follower, were found dead under suspicious circumstances at separate places in Kashmir valley, police said today.
Body of 71-year-old Bajid Khan Pathan, a tourist from Andhra Pradesh, was found at the famous ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 kms from here, in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, a police spokesman said.
The body has been taken to Public Health Centre Gulmarg and police has initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC to ascertain the cause of his death, he said.
Gulmarg is reeling under intense cold as night temperature plummeted below freezing point after the recent snowfall in the hill resort and other high altitude areas of the Valley. The night temperature also hovers around zero degrees Celsius in the plains including Srinagar.
Gurmeet Singh, a follower in police, was found dead at Aloochibagh locality of uptown Srinagar this morning, the spokesman said.
The deceased was posted in District Police Lines Srinagar and hails from Deedarpora village of Handwara in Kupwara district.
The spokesman said police recovered body of a 35-year-old unidentified person from Kralpora village of Kupwara district.
While body of Zeba Begum of Shunglipora-Khag was recovered from the nearby forests in Budgam district of central Kashmir, he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was collecting fire wood in the forests and had died of head injury after falling from a ridge, the spokesman said.
He said 13-year-old Rubeena Bano, a resident of Tanghath, was fished out from a reservoir at Hapathnar in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.
The girl had allegedly died after falling in the reservoir accidentally, he said.
The body was handed over to her relatives after completion of legal formalities.
