Dr Biswas said cardiovascular and thoracic surgery has grown in India at a high pace. Most people opt for cardiac surgery whereas there are only a few takers for thoracic surgery, he said and stressed the need for inclusion of robots in the training programme of cardio vascular and thoracic surgery.
The second paper on "Training in CVTS- European Perspective" was by Dr John Pepper who spoke about cultural values versus increased specialization and desire for continuity versus constant change.
Dr Jose Chacko Periyappuram, well known for his contributions in heart transplantation, stressed the immediate need for innovations that India has to undertake to excel in the field of cardiology.
