Another honorarium scheme in MP for Emergency prisoners

The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh today decided to pay an honorarium of Rs 8,000 per month to those who spent less than one month in prison under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and Defence of India (DIR) rules during Emergency.
The state government already pays Rs 25,000 per month to those who spent more than a month in jail under the MISA and DIR between 1975 and 1977, when Indira Gandhi government had declared internal emergency, leading to arrests of political activists and leaders across the country.
"The state cabinet today decided to provide honorarium of Rs 8,000 per month for those who spent less than one month in jail during Emergency," said an official of the Public Relations Department.

Those eligible for the new honorarium will have to apply before November 30.
In 2008, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government had first introduced honorarium for MISA detainees under the 'Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Honorarium Rules'.
