Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan has sent a report to the Centre following the resignation of N Kiran Kumar Reddy as Chief Minister to protest the state's division.
The Governor has not asked Reddy to be the caretaker Chief Minister, Raj Bhavan sources said, without going into the details.
Reddy had submitted his resignation to the Governor yesterday to protest the division of Andhra Pradesh and the way the Telangana Bill was carried out in Lok Sabha.
The Bill to carve out Telangana, the 29th state, by splitting Andhra Pradesh was on Tuesday passed by the Lok Sabha with Congress and BJP coming together on the issue, amidst din, chaos and an unprecedented black out of television coverage.
A number of ruling Congress MLAs from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema have announced resignation from their posts and also from the party over the issue of division, and analysts feel it would be a tough proposition for the ruling Congress to find a successor to Reddy in view of sharp polarisation along regional lines.
Some senior AICC leaders in Delhi had indicated that Andhra Pradesh is heading for "90 per cent a spell of President's rule.
