According to Apollo Hospitals Group (eastern region) CEO Rupali Basu, the authorities are planning to expand the present capacity with a new institute of gastro sciences providing specialised services and having a capacity of 120 beds.
They will also add 50 beds to the cancer hospital which has an existing capacity of 100 beds.
With the addition of 170 beds this year, Apollo will thus become a 780-bed multi-speciality tertiary care hospital.
They have already started construction of a Rs 400- crore medical college and hospital with a capacity of 1,000 beds at a 14-acre plot at Batanagar, near Kolkata.
With the launch of mobile app 'Happ' Apollo is looking at strengthening telemedicine not only in eastern India but also in the eastern part of the world in countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan, Basu said.
