The Delhi High Court was today informed by the civic authorities of the city that they have identified various areas in the national capital for setting up public toilets which will then be "replicated" in other areas later.
In view of the submission made by municipal corporations of East, South and North Delhi as well as New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Cantonment Board here, the court has sought status reports, with pictures, from them by the next date of hearing on the work done till then.
A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva, meanwhile, granted more time to Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to identify a site and start work after the authority said it has been kept busy with the matter of setting up night shelters.
While granting time to DUSIB, the bench observed that the problem with night shelter issue is that the authorities "only wake up when the court starts issuing directions during the winter months".
Advocate Ajay Arora, appearing for the three MCDs, said Geeta colony, Shakti Nagar and Defence Colony in East, North and South Delhi respectively have been identified as the "model areas" for the sanitation project which will be then replicated in other areas of the city.
