The Army today bid adieu to sepoy Sudees Kumar who lost his life in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army on the Line of Control (LOC) in Rajouri district.
A wreath laying ceremony was held to honour the martyr who laid down his life yerterday while guarding the nation's frontiers along the LoC in Rajouri sector, a Defence spokesman said.
He said the ceremonial military send-off was held in Rajouri this evening.
"General Officer Commanding of 25 Infantry Division laid a wreath on behalf of Lt Gen A K Sharma, GOC, 16 Corps," he said.
The mortal remains of the soldier would be sent to his native village for performing the last rites, the spokesman said.
Kumar belonged to Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh and is survived by his elderly parents, wife and a four-month-old daughter.
He had joined Indian Army in 2013 and became the first person from his village to do so.
"He was a thorough professional and loved his job to the core. The nation will remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and his devotion to duty will continue to motivate the future generations," the spokesman added.
