In memoriam of the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions for the honour of battalion and the nation, the unit celebrated its 49th anniversary of Maharajke Day, a defence spokesman said.
The battalion was tasked with the capture of Maharajke village, located 13 km from Sialkot in West Pakistan, held by a Company during the India-Pakistan war in 1965.
"The brave 'Thambis' of 3 MADRAS with remarkable courage successfully captured Maharajke on the intervening night of September 7 and 8, 1965," he said.
During the war, Thagdas captured 10 Mujahids as Prisoners of War beside recovering huge quantity of arms and ammunition from them, he said.
A number of former Commanding Officers and veterans attended the functions.
All ranks of the battalion also paid homage to the War memorial of brave comrades at Samba on this occasion.
