Reserve Bank of India Executive Director Surekha Marandi today said the apex bank is planning to open an office in the state within three to six months.
Marandi called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu and offered assistance in extending financial inclusion to unbanked blocks of the state.
She informed the chief minister that RBI has resolved to open an office in Arunachal Pradesh, preferably in the state capital.
The RBI is committed to extend banking facilities to the remotest parts of Arunachal Pradesh, said Marandi who heads the consumer education and protection department, financial inclusion and development department.
Khandu assured her all assistance from the state government.
He said it would ease up financial inclusion and transaction to a great level as the state has to depend always on the RBI office at Guwahati.
At present, the RBI regional office of Guwahati has jurisdiction over the seven states of the North East.
Marandi sought the cooperation of the state government in providing digital connectivity which has become the core of all banking activities.
