Ashok Leyland bags Deming Prize for the second year in a row

Hinduja group heavy commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland today said its manufacturing facility in Hosur has bagged the prestigious Deming Prize of Japan, given for total quality management.
The Hosur Unit II has been selected for the 2017 Deming Prize, a release from the city-based company said.
This is the second year in a row the company has bagged the award after its truck and bus facility at Pantnagar was chosen last year, becoming the only commercial vehicle manufacturer outisde of Japan to get the coveted honour.
The Deming Prize is given for Total Quality Management to companies that have established customer oriented business objectives and strategies, the release said.
"With the Hosur Unit II plant winning the award this year, Ashok Leyland becomes the only CV manufacturer outisde of Japan to achieve this feat," it said.
"Winning the Deming Prize consecutively for our second unit is a testimony to our efforts and our belief. All of us at Ashok Leyland are very proud to have achieved this.", company, Managing Director, Vinod K Dasari said.
"This (award) is indeed a big milestone in our journey and adds another feather to company's achievements of delivering industry firsts", he said.
Company Senior Vice-President, Manufacturing and Project Planning, Harihar P said it was a proud moment for bagging the Deming Prize for two manufacturing facilities.
The Deming Prize was established in 1951 by Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers to honour W Edwards Deming, who contributed greatly to Japan's proliferation of statistical quality control after World War II.
The selection procedure involves a tedious process with very intense and time consuming effort both for the company and the jury, the release added.
