Assam govt committed to the growth of divyangans : Sonowal

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today asserted that his government is committed to facilitating the growth of differently abled citizens and making them equal partners in nation building to ensure a totally inclusive society.
The Prime Minister's Skill India Mission is aimed to create a skilled human resource and industrial training institutes (ITIs) for the differently abled will pave the way to bring them to mainstream society, Sonowal said laying the foundation stone of the first ITI exclusively for the differently abled at Dibrugarh.
The CM said that budget provision of Rs 250 crore has been made to provide one-time financial assistance to 4.5 lakh differently abled or 'divyangans' of the state during 2017-18.
Assam and the North-east, he said, is at the forefront of the Centre's development agenda. Rapid progress has been made in recent times in Assam with an investment of around Rs 6500 crore and job avenues for 40,000 unemployed youth created.
The ITI for the differently abled will be set up within the premises of Dibrugarh ITI at an estimated cost of Rs 5.5 crore in the first phase. The building will be constructed as per the special needs of differently abled people.
The ITI will have sixty seats for three different trades with 20 seats per trade as per prescribed guidelines of National Council for Vocational Training, officials said.
The trades will include computer operator and programming assistant, cutting and sewing technology and hair and skin care.
There will be separate hostel facilities for boys and girls within the campus, they said.
