The Assam government has set up a three-member cabinet sub-committee to recommend land use perspective and also to suggest a roadmap for preparing a comprehensive inventory of government land in a time bound manner.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi directed the constitution of the sub-committee following an appeal by Industries and Commerce minister Pradyut Bordoloi and it would be headed by Revenue and Disaster Management minister Prithvi Majhi, officials said here today.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Bordoloi had pointed out that his department was facing acute problem in locating suitable land for facilitating industrial investment at a time when a large number of industrial entrepreneurs are willing to set up small and medium enterprises in the state.
Bordoloi requested the Chief Minister to set up the sub- committee comprising Departments of Agriculture, Revenue and Disaster Management and Industries and Commerce for identifying non-agriculture land for promotion of industrial investment in the state.
It would identify areas where agricultural activities and output are minimal or where land has become degraded, unproductive and deserted but still identified as agricultural land and include it in the Land Bank for determining future land use.
Besides Majhi, the other members of the sub committee are Agriculture minister Nilamani Sen Deka and Bordoloi.
The committee has been asked to submit its recommendations by July 31.
