Assam police asked to register case against Gogoi and Majhi

Assam police have been asked by a court to register a case against Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Revenue Minister Prithivi Majhi in connection with the Pranab Boro self-immolation case.
Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, Dipankar Bora, had directed the police to register a case filed against Gogoi and Majhi on the basis of a complaint filed at Dispur police station here.
The Court also directed SSP(City) A P Tiwari to take stern action against the investigating police officer for "refusing to register the FIR in spite of it disclosing commission of a cognisable offence".
A General Diary report (GDR) had been filed at the police station on February 24 followed by the First Information Report (FIR) on March 7 and investigation was on, police said

"No action has yet been taken yet as our investigations are on into the case filed under Section 120(B)/306 IPC (criminal conspiracy)", the officer said.
On February 24, Pranab Boro's wife Purnima Boro had had filed a complaint at the police station alleging that the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister were directly responsible for her husband resorting to self-immolation in front of the State Secretariat that day.
Pranab Boro was a Krishak Mukti Sangram Parishad (KMSS) activist who resorted to self-immolation in front of the public on the issue of land patta (deed) to people living in the hills of Guwahati.

KMSS president Akhil Gogoi and five other KMSS activists were arrested on March 2 based on an FIR filed by the Officer-in-Charge of Dispur Police Station and sent to judicial custody for alleged abetment of suicide by Pranab Boro.
