At present, the water supply facilities in Guwahati Metropolitan area are being operated by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (AUWSSB) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), said a government release today.
Since the present system could not cater to the demands of all the households, the State Government has taken up four projects - ADB funded Trache-I drinking water project by GMDA which will cover South East Guwahati, ADB funded Trache-II drinking water project that will cover South East Guwahati with both implemented by GMDA.
Moreover, another project for drinking water at a cost of Rs 389.53 crore is at an advance stage of completion with 95 per cent work progress and can go for trial run in March next.
Stating all the households of West Guwahati will be covered under the project, it said the Zoo Road Water Supply Scheme, Rukminigaon Water Supply Scheme, Rupnagar-Jatia Water Supply Scheme, etc., are providing lakhs of households well-treated drinking water to maintain health and hygiene for all.
