CBI sources said R S Verma was arrested today at the Western Command, Chandimandir while he was receiving Rs 25,000 in 11 newly introduced Rs 2,000 notes and the rest in Rs 100 notes.
It is alleged that Verma had demanded Rs 60,000 as bribe from a civilian contractor to clear his bills of Rs 26 lakh.
"It was alleged in the complaint that three bills amounting to Rs 14 lakh, Rs 10 lakh and Rs 2 lakh for the construction carried out at GE, Western Command, Chandimandir by the said private construction company were pending with Sub-Division, GE, Chandimandir," a CBI spokesperson said here.
"Searches are going on at the official and residential premises of the accused," she said.
