Just like his father did about 33 years ago, Abhishek Bachchan was able to rekindle the Yaarana magic at the Netaji Indoor Stadium today after his owned franchise Jaipur Pink Panthers concluded the Kolkata leg with two wins from as many matches.
"The first thing I did was to call my dad (Amitabh) and tell him that we managed to win in the same place where you swept many a hearts with his mesmerisizing performance in a bulb-fitted suit in Saara zamana," the Junior Bachchan told PTI as the 'yaarana' song blared out at the Stadium here.
"Here's my dad's song being played out. It's indeed turned out to be our lucky venue. We had a lacklustre start in Mumbai but I'm thankful to the city that we could turn it around here," he said turning it to be a nostalgic moment.
"I spent a quiet time with the team and met the players but we'll celebrate in a much bigger way after we won the tournament.
It was Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan who had walked down the very tunnel of the Netaji Indoor Stadium before dancing in his famous bulb fitted suit for the 1981 Bollywood bluckbuster Yaarana.
He further said the response kabaddi has got was heart warming and pointed out that the inaugural match of Pro-Kabaddi on July 26 in Mumbai was watched by 66 million viewers.
"The viewership of the inaugural match (in Mumbai) was 10 times bigger than the World Cup opening match. It speaks volumes about kabaddi's success. I'm really thankful to the crowd."
Well aware of Kolkata being the heart of football, Bachchan further said: "let's hope the city becomes the epicentre in kabaddi too."
Jaipur Pink Panthers today thrashed Patna Pirates for their second win on the trot here.
Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia too made his presence felt in kabaddi and said "I've been seeing the matches on TV so far and I'm surprised to see such an amazing response. I hope ISL too gets such big.
