Congress today flayed the SAD-BJP government for non-payment of salaries to state government staff, saying the functioning of government departments was paralysed causing problems to the people.
Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa expressed his solidarity with state government employees who have allegedly been not paid their salaries for the month of February, and hit out at the Parkash Singh Badal-led government for "withholding payment" of salaries, pension, dues, medical bills and loan from Provident Fund.
In a statement here, he said employees in almost every department were protesting for their demands for months together and the unrest among them had reached its flash point.
He said that functioning of most of government departments was paralysed causing problems to common people.
He slammed the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for making false claims of improvement in financial position of government.
Criticising Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, he said Badal had lowered the stature of his post by making false promises to striking employees every six months and then breaking them.
Bajwa said that SAD-BJP combine government was selling government properties to increase its revenue receipt but the money was being wasted on non-productive exercises whereas no corporate house invested in the state.
He said that Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) had sold several properties on the pretext of making investment in development projects but the money was diverted to government treasury to fill the coffers of state government.
Bajwa said that the debt of Punjab would cross mark of one lakh crores by the end of March 31 and Punjab government has been taking over draft from RBI over and above its credit limit.
He said that in 2008-2013 period, the SAD-BJP government had paid an interest of over Rs 59 crore whereas it has taken overdraft every year in the last seven years.
