A bandh was today observed here by the members of the minority community over a case of alleged arson last week in which unknown miscreants are said to have hurled petrol bombs at a place of worship.
All businesses and commercial establishments run by members of the Muslim community remained closed today in protest against the alleged attack targeting the Jama Masjid here. The community members were demanding immediate cracking of the arson case.
A delegation of local Muslim leaders also met senior Uttar Pradesh Cabinet minister Azam Khan and handed him a memorandum addressed to the chief minister demanding quick arrest of the culprits behind the act.
Some unidentified miscreants had tried to set the said mosque, which also houses the local office of Jamiat Ulema Hind along with a madarsa, on fire on the intervening night of August 17-18 in the Kotwali police station area here.
According to police, some unidentified persons had allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the place of worship on the said night. An FIR in the matter was lodged against unidentified persons, Faizabad District Magistrate Anil Dheengra had said.
Meanwhile, Faizabad Additional SP Yamuna Prasad said today that various police teams have been constituted to nab the culprits.
