Barley prices rise in futures trade on spot demand

Barley prices rose by another Rs 14.50 to Rs 1,365 per quintal in futures traders as traders raised bets amid a firm trend at the physical markets on strong demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, barley to be delivered in May contracts gained Rs 14.50, or 1.07 per cent, to Rs 1,365 per quintal, with an open interest of 5,500 lots.

Barley for delivery in the current month also rose by Rs 6, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 1,341.50 per quintal with an open interest of 740 lots.

Marketmen said raising of bets by participants, tracking a firm trend at the spot markets on rising demand influenced barley prices in futures market here.
