Beekeeping development centre to come up in Kurukshetra

An integrated beekeeping development centre is being set up at a cost of about Rs 10.50 crore in village Ram Nagar in the district, a top government official said today.
"Efforts would be made to get the centre inaugurated in October this year," Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, Abhilaksh Likhi said.
The centre would be set up under the Indo-Israel bilateral agreement on agricultural cooperation.
Likhi said that the objectives of setting up the centre is to strengthen and provide hand-holding to the beekeepers in the state, increase production through pollination support, generate additional income avenues for farmers, provide latest know-how and training facilities in the domain of beekeeping and branding and value addition in honey production.

Likhi directed the officers to complete the project by September 30.
He said that the centre would have modern laboratory, processing centre and a conference hall where training would be imparted to beekeepers.
He added that presently about 6,000 farmers were engaged in beekeeping and a target has been set by the government to double the income of farmers by 2022.
