The West Bengal Government is targeting to take control of central PSU Cycle Corporation of India (CCI) in Asansol, eyeing the 285 acres of land of the BIFR company under liquidation.
The effort was to get land for the industry and a five member committee was constituted at the Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting at Nabanna today for the purpose.
The government was working on modalities on how to go ahead and purchase the land on a priority basis.
The committee would submit its report on September 29.
The CCI had closed down in 1990 and the company has freehold land of 170.91 acres, while its lease hold land was 114.39 acres.
In 2013, the liquidator had valued the land at Rs 50 crore.
"The Left Front government had hardly shown any interest in purchasing the land. But, we want to purchase the land for industry," said an official of the labour department.
The committee would find out the current status of the land, the current liquidator, legal hurdles if any and other intracacies to facilitate the purchase process.
The government was also interested to purchase 150 acres belonging to the Mohini Mills at Belgharia.
"The mill had closed long time back and now there has been encroachment. The current status of this mill was also discussed in the GOM," the official added.
