From Hrishikesh Mukherjee in the '70s to Shoojit Sircar in 2016, megastar Amitabh Bachchan has worked with a host of Bengali filmmakers in his career and the actor says it's a privilege to work with them because they have an ability to touch a certain nerve.
The 73-year-old actor recently starred on Shoojit's production "Pink", which has been directed by Bengali director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury.
"Since Mrinalda's (Mirnal Sen) 'Bhuban Shome', where I did a voice-over, I have worked with almost every Bengali director right upto now and I continue to work with them-- from Hrishida, Shakti Samanta, Promod Chakraborty, Dulal Guha, Basuda (Basu Chatterjee) and now Shoojit.
"They have decided to choose me and that is a privilege. In fact, there is a certain sensibility which Bengali directors have. They are able to touch a certain nerve," Bachchan said during a promotional media event for "Pink" last evening.
Referring to Shoojit, who has directed him in "Piku" and the unreleased "Shoebite", Bachchan said, "Many times, Shoojit tells me how to enact a particular scene."
Talking about "Pink", the actor said the film's realistic courtroom scenes have worked well with the audience and he finds that encouraging.
"Every film with courtroom scenes in most of the Hindi films, there is a lot of drama, I am sorry to say. But in 'Pink', the dialogues were very normal, almost casual and from the audience's response that had worked."
"Yes that drama also works. But I am happy to say that this (scenes in 'Pink') also works. That gives us faith," he said.
