The Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) today directed a nationalised bank to compensate a pensioner whose Rs 27,000 was taken away by snatchers after he withdrew the amount from the bank's Kadamkuan branch in the state capital.
On August 10, 2013 as the person Chandra Madhav Tiwary was coming out of the bank after receiving his pension, someone snatched his bag in which the cash was kept and fled.
As Tiwary complained to the BHRC that the money was snatched within the premises of the bank and sought redressal, it pleaded that the money was snatched from outside its premises.
"The case was adjourned on several occasions to enable the bank to have some compromise with Tiwary, but they failed to reach one," BHRC Chairman Justice (Retired) Bilal Nazki said.
"We feel that the amount has been lost within the bank premises and it is the responsibility of the bank to compensate the petitioner. We direct the bank to pay Rs 27,000 to the petitioner within four weeks," Nazki said.
The commission has closed the case and forwarded copies of its order to the Kadamkuan branch Chief Manager of the said bank and it's Regional Manager here.
