With Odisha endowed with huge mineral base, its capital city Bhubaneswar would be a knowledge Centre for the proposed
Kolkata-Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said today.
Odisha, with its large mineral resources, has got potential to emerge as the manufacturing hub in Eastern India, Sitharaman said at the state BJP office here.
Therefore, it would make sense to develop the Knowledge Centre for skill development of this Industrial corridor proposed in the new industrial policy in Bhubaneswar, she said.
Stating that manufacturing industries have tremendous scope to generate employment, she said, after completion of education, the students can get jobs in the proposed new industrial corridor.
The minister also asked party members and social workers to popularise the Prime Minister's 'Jana Dhana Yojna' among large number of people living in rural areas without bank account. Under this programme, the beneficiary would get overdraft facilities, financial support, and insurance of Rs one lakh.
Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was present on the occasion, said Odisha would gain substantially due to centre's decision to hike mineral royalty.
He said beautification of the Sun Temple at Konark would be completed before Lord Jagannath's Nabakalebara festival next year for which Indian Oil Foundation has allocated Rs 36 crore.
