A bird-hit incident led to chaos at the Mumbai Airport today forcing the authorities to divert as many as five flights to nearby airports and three to do a go-around.
A Jet Airways flight from Dubai to Mumbai, with 110 people onboard, suffered a bird hit while landing but no harm was done either to the passengers or the aircraft, airport sources said.
The incident occurred at around 1629 hours when Jet Airways flight 9W-541, being operated with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, from Dubai was landing, they said.
"All passengers landed safely. An inspection of the aircraft was also carried out by the engineering team, which did not report any damage to the plane," a Jet Airways spokesperson said.
Due to this, two Air India flight, one each from Lucknow and Calicut and two Jet Airways flight from Calicut and Delhi were asked to do a go-around by the Air Traffic Controllers, they said.
In addition, four flights of budget carrier IndiGo from Delhi, Cochin and Bengaluru and one Jet Airways flight from Delhi were diverted to the nearby airports.
While IndiGo flights from Bangalore, Calicut and Delhi were diverted to Ahmedabad airport, Jet Airways flight from Delhi was asked to land at Vadodra airport due to congestion, the sources said.
