Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Birender Singh today said he was not in the race for presidentship of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee.
"I am not in the race for the post," he told a press conference here.
Singh, however, said he was working hard to strengthen the party in the state.
He said his remarks on "Rajya Sabha seat for Rs 100 crore" were quoted out of context.
"What I had stated was that money plays a big role in politics which is dangerous for democracy," the Rajya Sabha member said.
He claimed a large number of people had hailed his remarks on Facebook.
Singh had kicked up a controversy claiming there were people who shell out upto Rs 100 crore to get a Rajya Sabha berth.
In response to a question, he said he did not favour the idea of making the CBI an autonomous body.
The Congress leader supported the recent action of the Central government to take political parties out of the ambit of RTI.
"Political parties don't work under the government. So, they should not be subjected to RTI rules," he said.
Singh said several Congressmen who had earlier switched over to the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) were now returning to their parent party.
