German woman rape case convict Bitti Mohanty, arrested here last week seven years after he jumped parole while serving a seven-year prison term at Alwar in Rajasthan, is to be taken to Jaipur tonight by a Kerala police team which secured 10 days custody of the convict from a court yesterday.
A six-member investigation team led by Taliparamba circle inspector A V John would be taking Bitti to Jaipur by train tonight, police sources said.
The purpose of the team was to confirm the identity of Bitti, who had been living in Kerala as 'Raghav Rajan' after fleeing from Rajasthan while on parole in 2006 when he was serving the sentence for raping a German woman.
Police said the four-member Rajasthan police team, which arrived here last evening, did not have any scientific evidence to prove Bitty's identity, though Hemender, a member of the team who arrested him seven years back, identified the culprit.
Bitti would also be taken to Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to collect maximum details for establishing the case of forgery, impersonation and cheating registered by the Kerala police against him, sources said.
Police did not take Bitti to any place here today as part of the probe, they said.
The Rajasthan police team was staying back here to produce the Jaipur Court's production warrant in the court here tomorrow, after which they would return. They are likely to get custody of Bitti after he is brought back by the Kerala police team.
Son of former Odisha DGP B B Mohanty, Bitti, working in a public sector bank here for the last three years, landed in trouble after employees of the bank's branch at Pazhayangadi grew suspicious of the true identity of their colleague on seeing his photo among pictures of accused in various sex crimes shown by TV channels and floated on the internet in the wake of the Delhi gangrape incident.
Later, the bank authorities also received an anonymous letter stating that the man who was working there as 'Raghav Rajan' was Bitti.
Sources said Bitti was suspected to have forged several documents in Andhra Pradesh to conceal his real identity during his stay there.
