NPCC President K Therie, addressing a mammoth gathering of Congress workers in the State at Congress Bhavan here said, "demonetisation is Modi-made-Indias economic disaster, affecting every citizen."
The Centre has been promising development activities but in ground reality after demonetisation, they have not been able to pay even 35-40 per cent of the budgeted funds for Rural Health Mission, SSA, MGNREGA and other centrally sponsored schemes for the state.
NPCC Vice President Khriedi Theunuo said demonetization and GST have brought untold miseries to the common people in the country.
Cashless transaction is not going to work in Nagaland as we are not a developed state yet, and drawing money from ATM is harassment, Theunuo added.
The BJP meanwhile stuck to the merits of demonetisation.
BJP National General Secretary and in-charge of North East, Ram Madhav today said demonetization has broken the backbone of corruption and statutory affect on terrorist, insurgents and anti-national activities in the country.
Demonetization has brought down illegal parallel economy and considerable reduction in terrorist activities and violence in different parts of the country, he said while also accusing that those criticizing demonetization are the ones responsible for corruption of the system in the country.
On the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks, Madhav said the BJP is committed to bring peace and normalcy to Nagaland by bringing about an enduring and progressive settlement to the long pending issue of the Naga Political talks.
On the ensuing State General Election in February 2018, Madhav said the BJP has started election preparations. He said the party leaders felt that BJP should contest in all the constituencies of the state and his two-day visit to Kohima is mainly to prepare the party workers for the coming election.
The BJP leader also called on the State Chief Minister T R Zeliang at his official residence in the evening, wherein lone Lok Sabha MP of the State, Neiphiu Rio and Home Minister Y Patton were also present.
