BJP issues clarification, says Shah's remarks 'distorted' by

BJP tonight clarified that party president Amit Shah never stated in his address in Madhya Pradesh that people should leave politics after attaining 60 years of age, saying his comments are being "distorted" and quoted out of context by the media.
The party came out with the clarification after reports quoted Shah as having stated at a function in Chitrakoot that leaders over 60 years of age must quit politics.
"Shah's comments on noted social worker Nanaji Deshmukh's personality, work and philosophy are being distorted and quoted out of context by media," the statement said.
Shah never said in his address that anybody should leave politics after 60 years, it said.

"The BJP president was only discussing Nanaji's personality and how he served the society throughout his life and was associated with different sections of the society in Chitrakoot till the end," the statement said.
"To quote Shah in a wrong context is not only unfair but also factually erroneous," it added.
