In the wake of unseasonal rains which damaged Rabi crops, BJP functionaries of Panchayati Raj institutions (PRI), including Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Panchayats, have decided to donate one month's salary to calamity relief funds.
In a meeting with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje here, Zila Pramukh, Pradhan, Up-Zila Pramukh, and Up-Pradhan of PRIs decided to donate their one month's salary in view of the crop loss suffered due to the unseasonal rains and hailstorms in parts of the state, an official statement said.
Raje said her government was worried about the loss suffered by farmers and all MLAs cutting across the party lines and all 25 BJP MPs had announced that they will donate a month of their salary to the calamity relief funds.
The CM also advised them to attend a training camp to be organised in the state capital as most of the youths were representing PRIs for the first time.
She also told them to keep their blood relatives, especially elected women PRI functionaries away from the PRI's official activities.
Raje was hinting at the tradition of "Panch Pati", "Sarpanch Pati" way in which an illiterate elected woman depends on her husband or any other relative.
The CM also directed them to popularise the state government's welfare scheme and plans so that public get direct advantage.
