BJP seeks action against Congress MLA for breach of privilege

Two BJP MLAs have sought action against Congress MLA Tejashree Patel for "misleading the House" by allegedly providing false information in the state Assembly.
In his notice to the Gujarat Assembly secretary here today, BJP MLA from Khadia, Bhushan Bhatt alleged that Patel intentionally provided "false information" to the House during her speech in the Assembly yesterday.
According to Bhatt, during her speech about budgetary allocations to the Gujarat Information and Broadcasting Department, Patel claimed that 1 lakh copies of a magazine called 'Gujarat' is published (by the government) to inform the public about government schemes.
"Patel claimed that the magazine mostly publishes photographs of ministers inaugurating projects and if the published photos, by chance, don't look good, then the entire lot of one lakh copies are scrapped. This information given by the member is false and it misled the House," Bhatt alleged, in his notice sent to the secretary of the Gujarat Assembly.

"Thus, I request you to initiate action against Patel for breach of privilege of the House, as per rule number 250 of Gujarat Assembly Rules. Kindly permit me to raise the issue of breach of privilege against Patel in the Assembly," Bhatt said in his notice.
Similarly, BJP MLA from Rajkot Bhanu Babaria sent another notice to the secretary seeking action under rule number 250, against Patel for another issue.
"During her speech in the Assembly on 10th July, Patel claimed that more than 50,000 people in Gujarat are involved in manual scavenging. She also alleged that majority of towns in Gujarat face sanitation issues. This information is untrue and misled the House," Babaria alleged in her notice sent to the secretary today.

As per the Assembly rule number 252, the Speaker has all powers to admit 'breach of privilege' notices for further discussion in the House in its forthcoming sessions.
