Accusing the Narendra Modi government of launching a hate campaign against the people who do not follow RSS ideology, the state unit of CPI(M) today demanded the release of JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar.
"Following the RSS ideology... The Narendra Modi-led government has unleashed a hate campaign against them (those against RSS ideology)," CPI(M) state Secretary and MLA, M Y Tarigami said here today.
He accused the BJP and RSS of trying to polarise the country by racking up emotional issues.
He said it was a matter of serious concern that attacks are mounting against the JNU students and the crackdown launched by Delhi Police at the behest of BJP-led central government.
"JNU is an autonomous university and police crackdown on the students is uncalled for as the government should have allowed the JNU to form a high-level committee to investigate the entire episode and then suggest further measures to be taken," he said.
While raising questions about the videos showing student leaders raising anti-India slogans, he said that the entire matter should have been thoroughly probed by a varsity committee.
He said that by "enforcing police crackdown" on the students of JNU, the entire student community at the university has been made to suffer.
"Virtually JNU has been put under siege and sedition charges have been invoked against the president of JNU students union Kanhaiya Kumar and other students," Tarigami said.
He demanded that all cases be dropped against Kumar and he be released immediately.
"The shameful acts of vandalism at Patiala Court- beating up of media persons andgroup of Supreme Court lawyers by lawless goons having affiliation with BJP, the ruthless beating of Kanhaiya Kumar in the court premises itself has sent shock waves across the country.
"Police's inaction confirmed the brazen connivance of police with goons," he alleged.
