Bombardier to replace striking workers at Savli plant

Facing labour unrest at its Savli unit near here in Gujarat since June 3, Bombardier Transportation India today said it will launch a recruitment process to ensure smooth operations.
"The company will launch a recruitment process to hire replacements to ensure smooth conduct of its business activities," a company spokesperson told PTI.
The announcement came following break down of the talks the company had been holding with its striking employees to resolve the stand-off.
Senior company officials directly interacted with the representatives of workers. Gujarat government has already declared the strike illegal.
The company had on July 11 warned the striking workers to resume work on or before July 17, failing which their services would be terminated, the spokesman said.

Communication director of the company Harsh Mehta had earlier said the company had made several attempts for employees to resume work but was "presented with unreasonable work and financial demands".

About 500 employees are currently working at the plant while about 100 have been on strike since June 3 after the company transferred 39 workers to its metro project site in New Delhi in May.
The Canada-headquartered company's Savli plant is currently executing orders for metro projects in Adelaide and Victoria in Australia and delivery of metro cars for Delhi Metro.
"Bombardier will continue to take necessary precautionary arrangements and security at the site to ensure the safety of around 500 employees who are currently working at the site," the spokesperson added.
