A section of the sale of Indian and Himalayan art during the a week of Asian art sales in New York on September 13-14. was devoted to raising funds for Nepal, following devastating earthquakes in April.
Auctioneers said in a statement today that a donation, dividing the proceeds from this section equally between two charities, the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust and Save the Children.
Other significant lots in the 123-lot sale included a schist head of a Bodhisattva which sold for USD 149,000, a thangka from an arhat set: Pindola Bharadvaja, which sold for USD 100,000 and a Jain invitation scroll (Vijnaptipatra) that was sold for USD 46,250.
