Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha said the representatives of forward classes will hold a meeting on September 27 to decide future course of action on the issue.
"If the Raje government has a strong will and intention to provide 14 per cent quota to Economically Backward Classes, then it should forward a proposal to the Centre for Constitution amendment in Parliament" to raise the cap of quota beyond 50 per cent," Mahasabha president Suresh Mishra said.
With the passage of two bills by the Assembly yesterday, the quota percentage has gone up to 68 per cent.
He noted that the Vasundhara dispensation in its previous term in the year 2008 had also brought the same bill which was stuck in legal hurdles.
Therefore, he said, there is a strong possibility of the bill meeting the same fate again unless concrete steps are taken for Constitutional amendment in Parliament.
"The state government should take this initiative (of forwarding a proposal to the Centre) because they have their (party's) government in the Centre," he said.
