The opposition Left Front today took out a rally here to demand that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too be brought under the purview of the Narada sting probe and sought arrests of TMC leaders involved in it.
"We demand that the CBI should be pro-active. It should immediately arrest those TMC leaders involved in the Narada scam.
"The chief minister should also be brought under the purview of the investigation as it is her party leaders and state cabinet ministers who have been found involved," CPI(M) state secretary Surya Kanta Mishra said addressing the rally.
"The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee should stop shielding TMC MPs and the CBI should play an active role. We demand that CBI should be allowed to work freely and the political match fixing between the BJP and the TMC should not impact the probe," he said.
The TMC helping the BJP to form the government in Manipur is a "glaring example of the covert pact" between the two parties, said Mishra.
"We have doubts whether the BJP would allow the CBI to function freely as it had earlier used its influence to slow down the CBI investigation and save TMC leaders. If they (TMC) have not committed any fault, why are they so afraid of the CBI inquiry?" he asked.
The procession led by Mishra and other Left leaders moved from Esplanade to Moulali crossing, carrying placards demanding immediate arrests of those involved in the scam.
