Considering the strategic importance of Uttarakhand which shares borders with China and Nepal, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today said a BSF battalion will soon be raised in the state.
"Twenty acres of land at Bullewala village in Doiwala block have already been allotted for the purpose," Bahuguna told BSF officers at a meeting held here.
Apart from this, 15 acres of Gram Samaj land adjacent to the plot can be allocated for a Central School for the children of BSF personnel to be deployed in the state, he said.
Meanwhile, 50 acres of forest land on Dudhli road have also been identified for establishing a BSF Training Centre there, Bahuguna said, adding that a team of state government officials will soon approach the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment to seek its clearance for the purpose.
BSF officers, who attended the meeting, also offered to assist the state government in training at the Adventure Sports Academy.
Expressing his agreement with the idea, the chief minister said apart from strengthening security in the state, creation of a BSF battalion will also be a boost to development.
He said the state government was also planning to approach the Union Home Ministry for its nod to establish a BSF battalion for Kumaon region.
