Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today condemned the militant attack on a BSF convoy on the outskirts of the city here, saying the incident signified a "down turn" in the security scenario in the state.
"The armed attack on a paramilitary vehicle which resulted in the death of a trooper signifies a down turn in the security scenario under the present government even as the chief minister is engaging himself in frivolous debates," PDP said in a statement here.
It said the combination of increasing frequency of strikes by the "unknown gunmen" on defenceless civilians, attacks on police and paramilitary forces and "inhuman official repression looks like a throwback to the dreaded pre 2002 era of darkness."
"Omar Abdullah government instead of building upon the people's initiative was now reduced to counting the number and source of condemnations of the tragedies it failed to prevent," the statement said.
Having "failed" the people in upholding the status, dignity and rights of the state within the union, the PDP said the chief minister is now trying to find fault for his "disastrous performance" in others, mainly the PDP.
The PDP alleged after the "clear admission" by the chief minister on the floor of the house that he was unable to do anything even in matters involving innocent killings, it is obvious that nothing can be expected of this government.
The ultras ambushed the personnel belonging to 8th Battalion near Chanapora bridge this morning, resulting in injuries to three constables.
The personnel were admitted to 92 Base Hospital of the Army at Badamibagh cantonment, where constable Kalita succumbed to his head injures.
