Cab driver arrested with 1-kg poppy

A taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly possessing around one kg of poppy straw here, following a complaint by tourists from Jaipur, police said today.

The police received a written complaint yesterday by the tourists against the taxi driver, who comes from Batote area of Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, a police spokesperson said.

During a search of the vehicle, one-kg poppy straw concealed in three polythene bags was recovered, the official said.

The accused was arrested and a case has been registered under Section 8/15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he added.
