A case related to allegations of financial irregularities against a former Lalit Kala Akademi chairman has been referred to the CBI, the government informed Parliament today.
A three-member committee was set up on April 18 to probe "various allegations of irregularities and violation of government guidelines by former Lalit Kala Akademi chairman K K Charavarty", Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The committee submitted its report on June 14. Based on it, the matter was referred to the CBI on July 27, he said.
The Lalit Kala Akademi, an autonomous organisation under the ministry of culture, was established in 1954 to promote and propagate the understanding of Indian art, both in India and abroad.
