Chennai Police today registered a case on a complaint which alleged that private detectives were spying on some pro-Eelam activists and students in an attempt to prevent possible disruption of the Indian Premier League matches by them, police said today.
Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai Police registered the case on the complaint by city-based advocate P Pugalenthi.
Pugalenthi, also Secretary Tamil Nadu People's Rights Forum, in his complaint, claimed he had 'credible information' that private detective agencies were intercepting telephone conversations of the activists and students who have been continuously undertaking agitations demanding justice for Sri Lankan Tamils and against the participation of Sri Lankan cricketers in the IPL.
Contending that this was an offence, he sought necessary action, police said.
