CAT directs AP govt to decide in two weeks on DGP Reddy's plea

Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) here today directed the Andhra Pradesh government to take a decision within two-week on DGP V Dinesh Reddy's representation seeking to continue him in the post till September 2014.
The Hyderabad bench of CAT disposed off the petition of Reddy in which he sought direction to the state government to continue him as the DGP for a period of two years from the date of his appointment from September 29, 2012, and gave these directions.
The AP Police chief had yesterday filed an application before the CAT contending that his appointment as DGP was made in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court in Prakash Singh case, wherein the state government sends a panel of three names of senior-most IPS officers to the UPSC and one among them is selected as per the recommendation of the commission.

He said the Supreme Court's directions are specific about the appointee to the post of DGP being in office for a minimum period of two years from the date of his appointment, irrespective of the date of superannuation.
Reddy said he is attaining the age of superannuation by the end of September 2013.
