CB-CID Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh and ASP Aravind appeared before Justice M Venugopal and submitted the interim report in a sealed cover, complying with the October 28 order of the court.
This is the sixth time CB-CID has sought extension of time to complete the probe into the murder of K N Ramajeyam who was found dead on the banks of Cauvery river in Tiruchirappalli on March 29, 2012.
The judge is hearing a petition by Ramajeyam's widow, Latha, seeking a CBI probe into the case. The court had earlier directed CB-CID to speed up investigations.
In the previous hearing on October 28 also, CB-CID submitted a confidential report and said the police were zeroing in on the assailants, accepting which the Judge had said it was not appropriate to transfer the case to CBI at this stage.
