Centre's decision on red beacon inspired by AAP: Sisodia

The AAP said today the Centre's decision of barring the use of red beacons atop vehicles was "inspired" by its ministers who do not use the facility, and termed the move as a "half-decision" toward ending the VIP culture.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Centre should also withdraw the security cover being provided to Union ministers, as has been done by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi.
Seeking to end the VIP culture prevailing in the country, the Union Cabinet today decided that beacon lights will be removed from all vehicles, including that used by the Prime Minister and the President, from May 1.

"There is no need of beacon light and security because these keep leaders and officers away from people. This is a half decision as the Centre should have also withdrawn security of its ministers," Sisodia said on the sidelines of a programme at the Constitution Club here.
He said that the new decision should be implemented effectively.
"Today, I can proudly say that AAP ministers have not been using beacons for over two years. We are not here to do politics but to change the same in the country.

"I am happy that it was the Aam Aamdi Party which had first started this culture in the country and the Centre today had to accept it," Sisodia said.

When other political parties take "inspiration" from the AAP government's move, it means "we have succeeded in our political mission" which is a good thing, he said.
He said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too does not use a beacon-fitted car.
