"Abdul Rashid alias Nanhe, resident of Sundernagri in Seemapuri, was arrested last night from Tahirpur T point after he tried to escape a police barricade on his motorcycle," North-East district ACP V V Chaudhary said.

A loaded country-made pistol was recovered from his possession, he said.

Nanhe was wanted in the yesterday's chain snatching incident during which two passers-by were injured as he opened fire after he fell from his bike in a desperate attempt to flee after snatching a woman's chain.

According to the police, the woman Mamta Gupta (43) was on a cycle rickshaw with her daughter-in-law Preeti Gupta (24) when Nanhe and his accomplice approached them from behind and snatched Mamta's gold chain.

Mamta lost her balance and fell on the ground but she caught hold of one of the snatchers and as a result, the bikers also fell down.

Realising that a crowd was gathering around them, Nanhe fired indiscriminately in which the two passers-by were injured.
