Chanda Kochhar gets honorary degree from Canadian university

Noted banker and ICICI Bank chief Chanda Kochhar has been awarded honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Canada's Carleton University for her work in the financial sector.
Earlier recipients of this honorary degree include Nobel Laureates Aung Sang Suu Kyi and Gerhard Herzberg, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev.
Kochhar is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank, the country's largest private sector lender.
Carleton University has awarded the degree to Kochhar in "recognition of her pioneering work in the financial sector, effective leadership in a time of economic crisis and support for engaged business practices", according to a statement issued by ICICI Bank.

She was conferred with the honorary degree during a recent
ceremony held at the university's campus in Ottawa.
At the ceremony, Kochhar said the honorary degree is a recognition of the growing linkages and vast potential for co-operation between Canada and India.
ICICI Bank's consolidated total assets stood at USD 124.5 billion at the end of June this year.
