P P Chaudhary today took charge as Minister of State for Corporate Affairs.
Soon after taking over, 64-year-old Chaudhary, who is also the Minister of State for Law and Justice, held meetings with senior officials at the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
He is the third MoS in the ministry under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government since it came to power in May 2014. Arjun Ram Meghwal and Nirmala Sitharaman had also served as MoS for the ministry.
Chaudhary tweeted, along with photographs, saying that he has taken over as MoS Corporate Affairs.
An official said the minister took charge in the morning and later held meetings with senior officials.
"Held an introductory briefing meeting with officials from Ministry of Corporate Affairs before taking charge as its Minister of State today," Chaudhary said in another tweet.
Arun Jaitley is the Corporate Affairs Minister.
A BJP MP from Rajasthan, Chaudhary has served as a member in a number of parliamentary committees including the Joint Committee on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
The Lok Sabha member has taken charge at a time when the Corporate Affairs Ministry is making efforts to clamp down on shell companies, working to further improve the ease of doing business and is implementing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
